Supported Housing is a model where Housing related legislation and the Care Act come together. Recent changes, including the Renters’ Rights Act and Supported Housing Regulatory Oversight Act, mean that understanding the housing context is now essential for legally compliant practice.
Understanding that those within supported living are tenants first, not placements, and the expectation within the new regulation that Housing and Adult Social Care work together, this training is designed to build practical housing literacy across Adult Social Care, giving teams the confidence to recognise their role, work effectively with landlords, and ensure that people have homes that genuinely support independence, wellbeing, and choice.
This one day, face-to-face course gives an overview of the issues and potential risks that need to be considered when commissioning, reviewing or providing a supported living service.
At the end of the course, staff will have a better overall understanding of housing legislation and regulation and will be able to:
• Understand the key legal and regulatory frameworks in supported living, including the recent
changes from the Renters’ Rights Act and the Supported Housing (Regulative Oversight) Act
• Understand the difference between a licence agreement and a tenancy and which is
appropriate in different settings
• Understand the relationship between landlords/managing agents
• Understand the role of the support provider in ensuring tenancy sustainment
• Understand rents and service charges
• Ensure that housing related issues are considered within wider organisational policy
• Identify the split between tenancy agreement and support agreement
