Introduction to Tenancy for Service Users, Families and Carers (short course)

This is a short, 2 ½ hour course, aimed at those with little or no knowledge of tenancy and housing law. It provides an accessible introduction to a tenant’s rights and responsibilities, relationships with landlords and risks to sustaining a tenancy.

The course is suitable for all client groups and their support networks and can be adapted to suit specific support needs. The audience will be considered when planning delivery and appropriate learning tools will be applied. It can be specific to an actual tenancy if people are already living in a property or can provide a more general overview when offered as part of Life Skills/Move-On training.

This course will cover:
• What’s included in a tenancy
• What it means to be a tenant
• Roles and responsibilities:
– as the tenant
– of the landlord
• What is and isn’t included in your rent
• How to complain
• What happens when a landlord wants to end a tenancy
• How you can end a tenancy

This can be used as part of a wider organisation training package, in conjunction with Introduction to Tenancy Management in Supported Living, as part of Soft Skills training for service users entering the work place or as a stand alone course.
